Enoteca Bisson was born in 1978 when Pierluigi Lugano fell in love with the wines of the Ligurian coastline. He began as a trader in small lots of bulk wine, later became a wine merchant and finally a grower in his own right. He now splits his time between his busy wine shop in Chiavari, the wine cellar and his vineyards and is now considered one of Liguria’s most accomplished producers. This wine, however, comes from the opposite side of the country, from the Veneto, for Glera is the correct name for the grape that used to be called Prosecco; it is a lightly sparkling wine, bone-dry, bottled early to maintain its freshness. Because he eschewed using a cork in favor of a crown cap, the wine doesn’t qualify to be bottled as Prosecco and thus is labelled “Glera.”
