The Guado al Melo 2021 Bolgheri Rosso Rute (a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Syrah) has a dry aroma of oatmeal cookie or sweet oats with black fruit layered within. You get stewed blackberry and cherry confit. Those oat-like aromas break down into sweet grass and herb. This wine ages on the lees for 12 months in neutral wood. Merlot was once part of the blend, but starting with this vintage, it was replaced with Syrah to obtain what vintner Michele Scienza calls a "Mediterranean blend." This is a 40,000-bottle release.
